What will I be judged on?
DJs will be scored on: Choice of music, mixing ability, hosting ability and audience
VULGAR and Offensive Language is strictly prohibited!
Should any of your music containany vulgar language as deemed so by the judges, points will be deducted (up to -20 points) from your final score, and music will be stopped. You will be given only 1 more chance to perform on the day, however, this decision will be left up to the judges to make.
It is therefore important to know what music you are playing, and if playing in a different language, it is your responsibility as a DJ to know what the lyrics mean.
It is your responsibility as a DJ to act professionally. Should you arrive late for the sessions as per time communicated, the judges reserve the right to:
- Deduct up -20 points from your final score depending on your lateness.
It is important to remember that this competition is for a working contract at uShaka Marine
How much time will I have to perform?
Each DJ will be given sufficient time (up to 15 minutes), so prep your music accordingly as you may be asked to play longer. However, the judges reserve the right to “STOP DECKS” should they feel that the music or performance of the DJ is vulgar or offensive or is not up to the required minimum standards. So choose your playlist carefully, watch what you say and bring your A-Game.
If the judges STOP DECKS the competitor will immediately be eliminated and not scored.
Is there a specific genre selected?
There is no specific genre. We are open to all genres, as long as the music is entertaining
Is there a Semi-Final?
Yes! After careful consideration after round 1 on the 17th June, we have now introduced the semi-final round. This will take place on the 29th July. The DJ’s with the highest scores will be selected to battle it out for a spot in the final.
Who goes onto the final?
The top DJ’s chosen from the semi-final will proceed to the finals for the ultimate battle. The Judges reserve the right to choose or not to choose finalists from any particular round.
What is the Public Vote?
Between the 29th & 30th July all performance videos of the chosen finalists from the semifinal, will be uploaded onto the uShaka social media sites (Facebook, twitter and Instagram).
The combined number of likes, shares, retweets from all uShaka social media sites will be combined and added to the final score.
You will have the entire month of August (1-31 August) to garner votes on social media.
What happens at the finals?
The Finals will take place on the 9th September from 2-8PM.
Each finalist will once again be given up to 20 minutes to perform and wow the judges and crowds. The judges will once again have the ability to “stop the decks” and if all judges “stop the decks” the competitor will immediately be eliminated and not scored.
Depending on what the judges see and like, there may be more than 1 winner.
We are also working on a surprise performer for the finals; we will keep you updated on the details.
What can I win?
A one-year contract up the value of R50 000. 00 to perform at uShaka Marine World. You will also have the opportunity to perform at uShaka venues and events for the duration.
Once the winner/s are announced, they will play a triumphant hour set to celebrate.
